Convert Facebook Visitors Into Leads With HubSpot Welcome

HubSpot Welcome Facebook ApplicationHubSpot is excited to announce our first Facebook Application exclusively for HubSpot customers: HubSpot Welcome

HubSpot Welcome is designed to allow you to increase the conversion rate of Facebook page visitors to "likes" and to allow you to convert "likes" into leads by providing a secondary call-to-action and HubSpot Lead Conversion Form to your Facebook page visitors.

When a new visitor lands on your Facebook page, they'll be presented with a Call-to-Action for them to "Like" your page:

Landing Tab Sample

Once they "Like" your page, they'll be presented a "Like" Thank You message and secondary Call-to-Action, complete with an exported HubSpot Conversion form:

Like CTA Sample

Once they complete and submit your conversion form, they'll be presented with another Thank You page where you can provide them the links or instructions for getting the promised content:

Thank You Sample

To install the application on your Facebook page, go to the App Profile Page and click on the "Go to App" button for detailed instructions on how to get it set up!

Ben,

Also, can the HTML (or whatever Facebook uses) be modified on the opening landing page? I noticed you have a custom Hubspot one. How can we customize ours?
Posted @ Friday, December 09, 2011 2:43 PM by Derrik Hubbard
Ben, my initial landing page has a frame that says

Like Us?
Like Us!

Is that the right opening frame? I thought I input "Want to Save More?" as the opener.
Posted @ Friday, December 09, 2011 2:43 PM by Derrik Hubbard
I just realized why folks are getting a page that reads "HubSpot Facebook Integration". This is because you're installing an app called "HubSpot" rather than the app we're talking about here called "HubSpot Welcome".

If you install and see only "HubSpot Facebook Integration" on the screen, remove that app and add "HubSpot Welcome" instead.

Also, it appears that Facebook has moved their fix for HTTPS and iframe applications to production, so you should be able to use "HubSpot Welcome" in HTTPS mode now. Let me know if you're running HTTPS and see anything fishy.
Posted @ Friday, December 09, 2011 2:43 PM by Ben Smith
@Jon: Sorry that you're having issues with installing the application.

This type of Facebook application does not get downloaded. You actually install the application to your Facebook page directly the application's Facebook profile.

You can access the application's Facebook profile by either: 1) Clicking the link to the Profile Page included at the end of step 1 in the instructions; or 2) Going directly to this URL: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=165173666864499

Once on the application's profile page, you can click the "Add to My Page" link as detailed in step 1 of the instructions.

Please let us know how it goes!
Posted @ Friday, December 09, 2011 2:43 PM by Ben Smith
The app doesn't work / download or even appear. The url that you provided - http://apps.facebook.com/hubspotwelcome - gives us the instructions once the app has been downloaded but does not help when the app can't be downloaded.

You need to test, test, and retest, before giving us instructions that appear not to work.
Posted @ Friday, December 09, 2011 2:43 PM by Jon Nugent
@Frank: Try this URL http://apps.facebook.com/hubspotwelcome/

Also, make sure that you're not using Facebook in https as they haven't rolled out the fix for https access to iframe apps to production yet.
Posted @ Friday, December 09, 2011 2:43 PM by Ben Smith
Installed the app, but the page after that pops up almost empy. Only says HubSpot Facebook Integration. And then the big empty.
Posted @ Friday, December 09, 2011 2:43 PM by Frank Suyker
How 'bout a poll app? We're interested in anything that makes Facebook community management easier and tied to our website.
Posted @ Friday, December 09, 2011 2:43 PM by Beth Humble
@Chris: I'm glad that you were able to get the app installed!

@Beth: I haven't planned any yet, but it's definitely a possibility! What would you like to see in another HubSpot Facebook App?

Will there be more Hubspot apps for Facebook?
Posted @ Friday, December 09, 2011 2:43 PM by Beth Humble
Folks - on Wednesday, April 6th we will be hosting a live webinar for the HubSpot Welcome Facebook application. You can sign up at http://camp.hubspot.com/day-camp. This will be the first session in our DAY CAMP - Quick Win Webinar Series presented by HubSpot Content Camp.
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Jen Poole
@Jen Ah okay, I see that I don't have that set up, but I'm not sure how to do it. Where do I add this redirect URL in Hubspot? Do I have to make the form myself? Sorry, I'm lost here.
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Krystal
@Krystal - you can only set up one tab/page with this application.

Within your setup within Facebook in the Exported HubSpot Conversion Form (optional)section, did you use the redirect URL given to you inside of this section within HubSpot when you submit your Form and are prompted with "To which URL do you want to redirect the visitor after they submit the form?" Did you also use your Exported Form HTML?
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Jen Poole
I'm also wondering, is it possible to set this up for multiple tabs?
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Krystal
When people like our page, they're only given the thank-you message, the form doesn't appear. Did I set something up wrong?
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Krystal
Thanks Ben!
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Dave Maloney
The database issue has been resolved and you should see the app functioning normally now.

Thanks!

1:00pm: Still getting the message "Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 111".

I am not getting this message from other Facebook applications.

Could this be a Hubspot issue rather Facebook issue?
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Kanti Purohit
Still getting this message when we try to go to the app: "Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 111". Is FB still having issues with it? Thanks!
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Dave Maloney
@Krystal: It looks like Facebook has resolved the issue. Give it another try!

Thanks!
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Ben Smith
@Krystal: Facebook is having an issue right now with apps. I'll let you know when you can install the app as soon as I find out where Facebook is with the fix.
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Ben Smith
When I try to re-add the app (I uninstalled it because I was getting a blank page), and go to http://apps.facebook.com/hubspotwelcome/ I get a completely blank page. I can't do anything. Any idea how to fix this?

I just did tried this and when I saved in the app, my thank you text that should appear after the user 'likes' the page, and the thank you text that should appear after the user submits the form disappeared! I tried twice and same result. Can you help?
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Diane
@Maggie: You've got one more step to go. You'll need to click "Edit Page" on your page and select "Welcome" as the "Default Landing Tab" under "Manage Permissions".

Just so you know, since you're an admin, it won't be the default for you, just for other visitors.
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Ben Smith
Thanks, Garrett, for walking me through the setup process. Appreciate your patience.
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Don Metznik
@Ryan: Thanks! At this time, we're only able to embed the exported lead form. I'll add this to the feature request queue.

Great job guys -

Can I send them to a blog subscribe instead of a lead form?

@Sarah: Not bad at all! One change: in the "Like" Thank You Message, change the sentence "We would love for you to join the conversation on facebook and share with us your skincare routine!" from H2 to H3 and it will look a lot better!

It sounds great but I'm not sure I really got it- I add a link to an older landing page, is that a good idea? Also, I don't know if it sticks out as it should, could you take a look?
Thanks for the help!

@Derrik: Actually, it would!
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Ben Smith
Ben...would the CTA button creator in Hubspot work for the landing page image?
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Derrik Hubbard
@Derrik: The first thing that someone will see is the call to action button (Like Us? Like Us!). You can have a custom image replace this image if you create the image and load it to your HubSpot portal. The image should be 520px wide by 520px tall and should be named fb-like.jpg. You'll then need to put the image in your HubSpot portal by going to Settings->File Manager and uploading the file to the images directory.

The custom image you see on HubSpot's Facebook page is actually the image fb-like.jpg in HubSpot's portal!

@Kanti - click on more under the new tabs and then drag and drop the items to where you want them displayed.
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Christi Wharton
@Kanti: From what I can find, there's no way to change the order of the Tabs in the new "tab list" and it will show 6 tabs "above the fold". I've not found any settings or any methods to change how the "tab list" orders or includes/excludes items. Sorry!
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Ben Smith
@Ben, thanks for your response regarding what a visitor will see on the page.

One more related question: Is there a way to change the order of the Tabs on a FB Page?

If not, is there a way to change the order of the tabs for just for the installed apps?

If not, is there a way to show ALL the tabs, including apps, by default?

Reason for the question: When I have more than 3 apps installed, some tabs get hidden; and a visitor may not click "more" and therefore not see my apps.

Thanks.

Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by chris
@Chris: Are you running Facebook in https? If so, there is a bug with iframe apps being displayed that Facebook is working on. This could cause you to not see the content being served by the app.
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Ben Smith
Well I follow the directions but when I go to the applications there is nothing there.Maybe it is because I have another hubspot app installed to post blogs and what not
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by chris
@Chris: This app is an iframe application. What piece is not showing up?
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Ben Smith
I can't seem to get it to show up for me.

Think I am better off to just go ahead and use the iFrames method and just create my own landing page
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by chris
@Kanti: If someone who already likes you comes to your page, they'll be defaulted to the "Wall", not the "Welcome" tab. If someone "unlikes" you, then the they'll be shown the "Welcome" tab again.

If someone visits the page who isn't logged in, they'll be presented the "Welcome" tab.
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Ben Smith
If someone who has previously "Liked" and then revisits the page, that visitor will not see the "Like Us" image (Welcome tab is set as the default, correct? What page will the visitor see? And, what page will a visitor see who is not logged in?

I assume the situation will change if a visitor "unlikes" the page?
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Kanti Purohit
@Kanti: You can change the image that's displayed on the tab, but you cannot change the image that is displayed next to the name of the tab in the new Fb page layout (it will always show the thumbnail of the installed application.)
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Ben Smith
@Ben Good to know that now we can change the image per your reply to @Christi.

Is this a change from yesterday? Because for the same question, your answer was negative.

Great job...love this app.
Thanks.
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Kanti Purohit
@Christi: Yes there is! The initial Like Us page can display an image from your HubSpot portal. You can make a custom image (be sure to limit it to 520 pixels X 520 pixels) and save it with the name fb-like.jpg. Once you've got the image, just load it into your portal's images directory (by using Settings->File Manager in your portal and clicking on the folder named images and choosing to upload a file.)
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Ben Smith
Just configured this with a conversion form. Love it! Is there a way to customize the initial Like us page?

Thanks!
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Christi Wharton
@Adam, I've adjusted the app settings in Facebook, so you'll be able to configure the app using https (which I believe you are because you got to the secure page), but you won't be able to see the content on the tab in using https. Facebook is rolling out a fix to this issue early next week so the iframe apps will work in https.
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Ben Smith
Installed the app, but whenever I click "go to app" the screen changes and I just get a message that says "this is secure".
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Adam Sokoloff
@Peter: Awesome!

The sprocket you see is the app icon. There's no way to not have an app icon display in the new Facebook Page Layout.
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Ben Smith
@Ben, I spent a little more time with it this morning and got the app up and working - Very Cool! Just one more question: is there a way to replace the hubspot sprocket that shows up next to the welcome tab with my own logo?
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Peter Rastello
@Dale: Thanks for pointing that out. I've made an update to the SQL statement that should fix the issue. Give it another try and let me know! (It was the apostrophe that was causing the issue!)
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Ben Smith
@Sarah: Here's a link to the documentation on Success on how to export your form code: http://success.hubspot.com/content-library/bid/5578/Using-HubSpot-Generated-Forms-On-Your-Website

Hi Ben
Seems like a great app and I was able to add it to my Facebook page. But I'm not sure how to set up the conversion form. Any instructions on how to do that?
Thanks
Sarah
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Sarah Ryan
@Ben I was able to get the app working finally. I guess it took the FaceBook platform time to initialize the app. I would love to see examples of how other Hubspot clients are using this app as ideas on how we can implement. Hopefully, other Hubspotters will post links or photos of their implementation on your app profile page. :)
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Brian Mahoney
@Peter: It looks like @Brian was able to get everything configured. Can you click the "Go to App" link under "Apps" on the "Edit Page" screen and see if it takes you to the configuration screen?
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Ben Smith
@martine: You actually export the form code from your HubSpot portal, so it can be any form that you can create in HubSpot.
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Ben Smith
Is this form customizable?
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by martine
@Kanti: Try this URL http://apps.facebook.com/hubspotwelcome/
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Ben Smith
@Ben: Looks great. Can't get the instructions. When I click, I only see "HubSpot Facebook Integration" on the page, nothing else.
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Kanti Purohit
@Ben, I have the same problem as Brian. The app appeared in my app profile page, I removed and re-installed it but it still doesn't appear anywhere on my page.
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Peter Rastello
@Brian: I still see the app on your page (listed as Welcome). Can you still see it under "Apps" when your administrating the page? If so, does "Go to App" take you to the settings page?
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Ben Smith
@Ben I tried and it still failed. I then removed the app hoping to reinstall. However, when I now click "Add to my Page" from the app profile page, I get "No Results" in the dialogue box for Add Hubspot Welcome to your Page. It is like deleting the app now won't let me try to install again.
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Brian Mahoney
@Brian Mahoney: Give it another try. Facebook might have fallen down on your request.

@Peter Rastello: I'm not seeing the app on your page. Try adding it again.
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:34 AM by Ben Smith
Ben, sounds like a nifty app! I decided to stick it on my FB page, but see no evidence of it yet - should I? (just search for Inbound Market Link on FB to see if I did it right. Oh, and if you happened to 'like' my page while you're there, I wouldn't object! //:~)
Posted @ Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:35 AM by Peter Rastello
Great concept. I followed the instructions on the app page, but it doesn't seem to work. When I click App: Edit Settings, I get a message "There are no settings for this application." I am unsure how to get this to work?
